Friends Night Away...

We held our first crop, A Friends Night Away, to a full crowd on Saturday and it went really well. There was plenty of room for each person to scrap at and the Cricuts were going the entire night cutting this that and the other thing for layouts and cards. One cute idea one of the ladies had was to cut out big butterflies to put into a child's little butterfly net for invitations to her daughter's birthday party. What a fabulous idea! The mini-class was a mini colours album using the ROY-G-BIV (Colours of the rainbow - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo & Violet (purple) Core'dinations paper. We embossed the pages and sanded them to reveal the beautiful colour core. Keep an eye out for our next crop coming in November. Spots are limited so when we post be ready to sign up.

Inspiration...

I was looking through a Home Depot flyer and found some interesting colour combinations. I'm always looking for new ideas for colours when putting together layouts. My goal is to try a layout with one of these combinations. If you do a lyout using one of these send a scan, we'd love to post it!

Birthday Party A Success...

8 little 5 year old boys and a lot of sugar! What was I thinking? Seriously though it was a fabulous time. The boys were all a lot of fun. The party started out playing in the backyard while they took turns having their faces painted. Next was inside to have a lunch of Pizza (cheese, pepperoni or meat lovers) cheesies, peanut M&Ms, and orange pop. One of my friends commented that that's her kind of buffet...I had to laugh cause it's all comfort food isn't it? I remember that being the feast the Friday after final exams. The boys made bugs or anything they wanted out of plastercine. Following that they moved to the playroom for the magic show. It was very well done and the kids just loved it! Thanks Magician Kyle! Off to the garage for the experiments all of which I had tried during the week to ensure they would work. 1 out of 3 worked on the day of the party...it was kind of funny how that worked out. The milk I guess wasn't quite at room temperature in the cooler garage. The 7 up wasn't fizzy enough to make the raisins float and sink...found another bottle later so they did get to see it. Finally we did the baking soda and vinegar volcanos. It worked...and was a big hit. Lastly we ate cake and opened presents. It was a good day!

Birthdays

Well the kids are back in school and it's birthday time for our family. All 3 of my boys were born in the fall. I hosted a double Family birthday party this weekend. Our baby, Owen, turned 1 and in two weeks our little boy, Eadan (ay-dan), turns 5. Our family here in town is reaching 20 and to get everyone together for two parties seemed difficult so we did a double party. Eadan is having a party with his friends from school this coming weekend and his theme is colours. Does anyone have any suggestions for games or activities? We have a magician coming, he's 12 years old and pretty amazing. We bid on him at a recent Scout auction and were lucky enough to win. I was excited to see our order of the Ribbon Purses arrived. Finally a nice compact easy way to store my ribbons. They are an organizers dream! What themes have you had for your children's parties? Would love to hear your ideas!

vacationing and scrapbooking

So I just returned from a trip to Mexico with my family. Mexico in July - a little odd I admit - but you can't beat the deals for the all inclusives at this time of year. My 8 year old drank 10 pina coladas (virgin of course!) on our first day!! while I truely relaxed for the first time in a long time on the beach, I kept thinking how fabulous it would be to scrapbook in Mexico - no house to clean, no phone calls to return, no grocery shopping or food preparation - it would be the perfect time to scrapbook. The problem, of course, was I had no supplies with me. How do you guys scrapbook when you travel?

BASIC GREY CARD KITS

*Does a little dance* I am so excited that our Basic Grey order has arrived. The new card kits that they have put out are fabulous and I can't wait to play with them!! I'm going to try to video tape creating the cards and perhaps post it on YouTube...we'll see how that goes *laughs*. I can just imagine everything going the way of Murphy's Law. We'll have the card kits up on the site early next week for purchasing. I'll post the photos of the card kits in the slideshow so you can get an idea of what to expect. Hope your week is a good one so far.

First Post

Hey Everyone!

Wow...I never thought I'd be one to use a blog but here I am. I'm excited to just sit down and type what's up. A good friend and I decided that since we spend so much time and money on scrapbooking why not see what we could do if we opened our own store. So we did and http://www.scrapbookaway.com/ is the result.

It's summer so I've been reading a lot and I've read three books on scrapbooking lately that have really excited me...Photo Freedom and The Big Picture by Stacy Julian and The Organized and Inspired Scrapbooker by Wendy Smedley and Aby Garvey. I've been revitalized in my love for scrapbooking. I'd been feeling guilty for having so many unscrapbooked photos and events and overwhelmed at times about getting it all done (anyone else out there feeling that too?). After reading these books I have a new perspective and am inspired again. What put me onto these books was having taken a class with Stacy at a recent scrapbooking convention. If you ever get a chance to take a class from her...DO IT! Anyone else reading any books they'd like to recommend...post them please.

The newly inspired,
Kelli

PS I'm a mom of 3 incredibly adorable boys (12, 4, and 10 months) and a wife of one fabulous husband that you can see in the slide show on the sidebar.
